The Shattered Lantern

A hundred years ago, Nietzche had his mystical madman smash a lantern in the marketplace and announce to Western Culture that "God is dead!". Few people took him seriously. Today, we would. Faith, if not shattered, is shaken by cultural values.

The Shatterd Lantern drew from a variety of stories and experiences to offer a spiritual antidote. The author suggests that, "The way back to a lively faith is not a question of finding the right answers, but living in a certain way." The existence of God, like the air we breathe, need not be proven. It is a question of developing good lungs to meet it correctly.

Ronald Rolheiser shines a new light on the contemplative path of Western Christianity. He offers a way back home.
